The United States Starship Voyager is attacked by a mysterious vessel while it is traveling to the Alpha Quadrant. As a result of the attack, the Voyager is taken to a ship graveyard that contains a massive space station in the center. The player takes on the role of Ensign Alex Munro, the second in command of the recently established Hazard Team, an elite squad comprised of Voyager security officers. The gender of this character is determined by the player. It is up to the player, together with their crew, to figure out why the Voyager was brought here and to devise a plan to get out of this place. In order to achieve this goal, they will need to successfully perform a number of missions aboard a variety of spacecraft and space stations.

Quake III is the game engine that is utilized in the first-person shooter Star Trek: Voyager – Elite Force. There are several distinct types of missions, ranging from purely offensive ones to covert ones. A number of the races from Star Trek, such as the Borg and the Klingons, as well as a number of other extraterrestrial races and animals that were made particularly for this game, are among the adversaries. Every single one of the weapons, from the low-damage hand phaser to the stasis weapons and the grenade launchers, has a cutting-edge appearance and design. The ammunition for the weapons is either progressively recharged automatically over time or the weapons require ammunition that may be obtained from either other weapons or terminals.

Even though the player only has direct control over Munroe, up to three other teammates will typically follow him (or her) during the missions and fight the opponents while being controlled by artificial intelligence. The events that are scripted and the cutscenes that follow them frequently feature the activities of these teammates. When she is not on a mission, Munroe has the opportunity to roam the spaceship, during which she can engage in conversation with other characters or listen in on their interactions with one another. During the course of the game, the player will have opportunities to make a few choices that, depending on their outcomes, may have an impact on what happens next.

There is also a multiplayer mode called “Holomatch” that may be played.
