Star Wars: Starfighter

The novel’s first scene takes place in space and features Rhys Dallows, one of the four central characters, flying an N-1 Naboo Starfighter. He successfully destroys one of the droid starfighters, but another shoots at him shortly after killing him. Rhys is then awakened by Essara Till, who instructs him in the fundamentals of combat and movement when it is revealed that he has been dreaming the entire time. The two are then consigned to defending the Queen of Naboo while she is meeting with officials from the Trade Federation. As it is revealed that the meeting was a ruse, Rhys and Essara are coerced into defending the royal spaceship until it is free to leave the area. Rhys survives and is eventually saved by a Toydarian vessel called the Reti, while Essara is killed by an unknown ship.
