The player assumes the role of Lei Yun, a highly talented warrior trainee, and leads her in combat against a sinister race of powerful demons known as the Gyakki.
Two aspects define combat: the first is determined by the three main swords of the game, each of which has its own unique abilities when equipped. This adds a strategic element to the fight, as it is important to use the appropriate weapon in accordance with the type of demon that you are up against. In addition, the player has the ability to use any weapons that have been dropped by defeated foes. The second facet is airborne fighting, sometimes known as “sword time,” which can lead to very powerful combos that involve acrobatic maneuvers.
