Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up is a 2.5D fighting game for four players, similar to the Super Smash Bros. series. During battle, players try to KO opponents by depleting their life bar, knocking them off the stage, or placing them in traps. Each character has a distinct move set, with many capable of performing additional techniques such as clinging to and leaping from walls. To assist players in keeping track of their characters, characters are color-coded on-screen via an optional glow effect. The game, like Super Smash Bros., has many battle customization options. The game emphasizes interaction with the environment, and stages include traps, changes to the scene, and interactive elements. [3] Items will appear on the scene from time to time for players to collect, such as life-restoring pizza and ninja skills, which grant players special abilities such as fire breathing and electrical shields. Smash-Up includes several gameplay modes and the standard Battle Royal multiplayer battles. Splinter challenges the turtles, April O’Neil and Casey Jones, to a tournament in Arcade, with different endings for each of the seven characters—survival tasks players with defeating 100 opponents before losing three lives. Swap-Out allows players to select two characters and switch between them in battle at any time. In Mission Mode, players must complete specific objectives in pre-defined scenarios, such as attacking targets or defeating an opponent within a time limit. Tournament and Practice modes, additional mini-games, and online multiplayer features are also included. [4] During battles or mini-games, players can collect shells and use them to unlock special features such as different character costumes, concept art from various TMNT media, and trophies that other players can win in online tournaments.
