The Sims, often known as The Sims 1, TS1, or simply Sims 1, is an interactive life simulation game for a single player that was developed by Maxis and distributed by Electronic Arts. The players are in charge of managing the day-to-day activities of simulated humans referred to as “Sims.” In order for their wants to be satiated and for them to lead productive lives, Sims require guidance in the form of mouse clicks. The Sims have some degree of free will, but it is not sufficient to be regarded as totally independent (and even this limited free will can be disabled). The residential property that a single Sim or an entire family calls home can be improved in terms of the building that sits on it (through Build Mode) as well as the furnishings that are already inside it (Buy Mode).

Will Wright, who also designed SimCity and was a co-founder of Maxis, is credited with the creation of The Sims, which is a spin-off of the SimCity series. The Sims was first made available for purchase on February 4, 2000, and has since received a large number of accolades and awards. The initial release was so successful that it spawned a total of seven expansion packs for the game, which in turn led to the development of other titles in The Sims series, such as the sequels The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, as well as The Sims 4.
