In the year 2401, the space marine Sergeant Cortez is making his way away from the space station that he stopped at the tail end of his previous expedition. Soon after, he realizes that the crystals he has discovered have the potential to fuel a time machine. After finding evidence of TimeSplitter’s activity in a number of different time periods on Earth, Cortez climbs aboard the time machine and travels to these time periods in the hopes of assisting a number of different people in their struggles against the forces of evil.

TimeSplitters: Future Perfect is a first-person shooter in which players engage in combat to progress through thirteen different story missions that are spread out throughout six different time periods. Players can choose to complete these missions alone or with a friend. The protagonist’s arsenal changes depending on the time period he travels to: for example, traveling to 1924 will allow Cortez to wield World War I weapons; a Soviet setting in the 1960s contains various local firearms of that time period; stages that take place in the future feature corresponding futuristic weaponry, etc.; the list goes on. There is some stealth gameplay as well as vehicle driving, in addition to the fast-paced shooting gameplay.

There are a variety of different multiplayer modes featured, the same as there were in the previous games in the series. Players have the option of facing off against computer-controlled opponents on any of the arcade’s fifteen different maps, or they can create their own. Additionally, players have the opportunity to compete for honors in dozens of different arcade league matches and challenges. It is possible to pick a character from a pool of 150 available options and engage in head-to-head combat with other players, either in a split-screen mode supporting up to four players or through the internet or a local area network (LAN).
