TOCA Race Driver 3 expands on the concepts introduced in Race Driver 2. The game tries to include as many different types of four-wheeled racing as possible in one game while also injecting each with a high level of realism. The game comprises over 70 licensed cars, 80 original tracks, and 35 racing disciplines. There are two main modes of play. In the World Tour mode, the player begins a racing career and attempts to gain renown and acceptance into more prestigious racing events with the assistance of a Scottish manager. There are 3D rendered cutscenes shown from the player’s point of view that move the story along and, while not as detailed as its predecessor, give a good idea of the behind-the-scenes of a professional racer’s life aside from just racing. This mode combines elements from all racing disciplines. The second mode allows the player to pick a domain and build a career around it. This mode lacks a backstory and features longer more realistic races. TOCA Race Driver 3 offers two driving methods: Simulation and Pro-Simulation. The latter is only recommended for gamers who use analog steering wheels. Simulation is intended for gamers who do not have wheels or who prefer a more straightforward experience. This mode is more accessible than TOCA Race Driver 2’s Simulation mode.
