Uchuu Senkan Yamato: Ankoku Seidan Teikoku no Gyakushuu

After Uch Senkan Yamato: Iscandar e no Tsuioku, the second part of the “Dark Nebula series” is Uch Senkan Yamato: Ankoku Seidan Teikoku no Gyakush. It picks up where the first part of the fourth Yamato film, Be Forever Yamato, left off. The Dark Nebula Empire strikes back and invades Earth following the battle of Iscandar. They intend to use the threat of a planetary neutron bomb to force the Earthlings to submit. Because the bomb’s trigger is on the Empire’s home planet, the Yamato takes off once more to find a way to keep the bomb from exploding. Meanwhile, Yuki Mori is stranded on Earth and joins the Resistance against the invading force. The game’s story is based on the original ideas of co-creator Leiji Matsumoto and is quite different from the movie, with some characters meeting very different fates. Uch Senkan Yamato: Ankoku Seidan Teikoku no Gyakush includes real-time space battles similar to its predecessor and new third-person phases in which the player takes direct control of a character and must navigate 3D levels to achieve specific objectives. Like previous games in the series, the game features character design by Keisuke Masunaga, based on Leiji Matsumoto’s original characters. The plot is told through animated 2D movies and fully voiced in-game cutscenes. Cel-shading is used to create the characters.
