The Champions League is one of the game modes that may be played, but it is not the most important one. In this mode, the player competes to unseat FC Porto as the champion of Europe by guiding one of their teams to the championship game at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul. This honor goes to the “The Season” mode, in which the player begins by creating his managing avatar, and then proceeds to a series of 50 missions, the first of which is a close last-week match against a rival team competing for a Champions League spot, continuing with a buyout of the club and increased expectations, and (hopefully) ending with the club winning the Champions League. This mode also enables players to unlock additional features such as balls, a stadium, and unique exhibition modes by completing objectives set by the club president throughout the season. Some of these objectives are crucial matches (which can result in a sacking if they are lost), while others are simply a matter of balancing the squad. Players can unlock these features by completing the objectives. Additional game types include the standard exhibition matches known as friendlies, a two-legged friendly known as “home and away,” scenarios (in which the player can construct situations such as defending a 1-0 score for 45 minutes while down two men), and practice matches.
