The gameplay of Sudden Impact is highly comparable to that of the games in the series that came before it. Each fighter’s unique fighting style may include Boxing, Karate, Kung-Fu, Kempo, Muay Thai, Ninjitsu, Sambo, Submission, Sumo, Pro Wrestling, Kickboxing, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or any combination of these and other fighting arts. Each of the four face buttons on the controller is assigned to control a different one of the fighter’s limbs. By simultaneously pressing two buttons, the player can execute a takedown, a grappling move, a submission move, or another technique of a similar nature. The gameplay of Sudden Impact has been updated to place an increased emphasis on proper fence positioning. Attempting a grapple move on an opponent who has been backed into the cage that surrounds the Octagon ring will put the player in several different positions, including a standing face-off and a particular ground-mount position in which the bottom fighter’s head is literally pressed against the cage. Other works include a standing face-off and a special ground-mount place. Compared to the games that came before, the general gameplay is also played slightly faster. Bruce Buffer makes the fight announcements, and “Big” John McCarthy is the referee.
