The Dark Tournament events occur after those seen in Yu Yu Hakusho: Forever. Even though a significant amount of time was spent competing in the tournament, it seems that only one day has passed in the world of humans. As Yusuke and his friends return to their village, they learn that Sensui has the plot to wipe out all life on Earth by ordering his right-hand man Itsuki to open a portal between the human plane and the demon plane. Following their heroic efforts to prevent the world’s destruction, Yusuke and his companions enter the Demon World Tournament to face off against the Three Kings.
