Because the game is a rhythm game, players can select from various Vocaloid songs, original songs sung by vocalists such as Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, and Len. Players can also choose which character they want to play in the game. These modules, also known as characters, can be completely different characters or simply different costumes for the same characters. While not directly controlled by the player, these modules will appear in music videos throughout the game, complete with their outfits. For example, if the player selects Kagamine Rin as their first character and Hatsune Miku as their second character, only Kagamine Rin appears in the video during solo songs, but both Hatsune Miku and Kagamine Rin appear in the video during duets. Each piece has four difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Extreme. Initially, a song’s Easy and Normal difficulties are unlocked; after clearing the Normal problem, the Hard Problem is opened, and so on. Players advance through the game by completing songs and unlocking new songs until they have unlocked all of them.
