Donkey Kong Country (Palette Restoration)

King K. Rool has stolen Donkey Kong’s bananas, and he needs your help getting them back. In search of K. Rool, the Kremling horde impedes your progress. Kremlings are crocodile-like creatures that range from the weak (Kritters) to the nearly invincible (Krushas). Beavers, snakes, and vultures are just some of the numerous animals that will try to stop you. Very Gnawty, Necky, Queen B., and Dumb Drum are their ruthless leaders, and each is uniquely evil.

DONKEY KONG AND DIDDY KONG: PRIMATE DIFFERENCES

These two primates, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, couldn’t be more different. Donkey Kong, for instance, is more powerful than most other characters in the game. He can defeat most foes with a single hop and lift barrels over his head to hurl them further. Diddy, on the other hand, can sprint very quickly and perform cartwheels, but he is not as strong as Donkey. Diddy protects himself from attacks from the front by bringing barrels with him.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE GAME’S LEVELS, WORLDS, AND BOSSES

The game’s worlds and stages are separated from one another. There are bonus places in each level where extra lives, bananas, and medallions can be found. Each world concludes with a boss, a much larger version of a lesser foe.

THE GAME BOY COLOR VERSION’S IMPROVEMENTS

The original game from the Super Nintendo was ported to Nintendo’s handhelds. The Game Boy Color edition adds an exclusive level (Necky Nutmare) and bonus games, Funky’s Fishing, and five Crosshair Cranky minigames. Collectible DK sticker packets can be found throughout the game’s levels. The Game Boy Printer could produce these sticker sets. After completing the game, you’ll unlock two additional levels of challenge. After completing the game for the first time, the player can disable the DK barrels; doing so a second time disables the checkpoint barrels.

THERE ARE SEVERAL NEW ADDITIONS TO THE GAME BOY ADVANCE VERSION

Extra games were included in the Game Boy Advance version. It features a variant of Funky’s Fishing with six dance games instead of the crosshair-themed original. New features include a time attack mode called DK Attack, a harder difficulty mode called Hero Mode (in which players can only play as Diddy Kong, and the game no longer provides Donkey Kong barrels and checkpoints throughout the levels), and a scrapbook mode that replaces the sticker book idea from the Gameboy Color version.
