For Pokémon lovers, 2017 will always be remembered as the year “Pokemon FireRed 2,” a spectacular GBA ROM Hack created by the skilled Wobb, was released. This incredible game expands upon the foundation laid by Pokemon Fire Red, ushering in a new journey for trainers worldwide.
THE END OF THE CLASSICAL PERIOD
Set five years after the events of Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow, “Pokemon FireRed 2” takes players on an adventure. The governments of Kanto and Johto bravely decided to unite their regions, forever changing the face of the Pokemon world. Because of this merger, however, a tough choice had to be made: from now on, each Pokemon region could only have eight Gyms. As a result, eight Gyms—including Viridian, Pewter, Fuchsia, Cinnabar, Mahogany, Blackthorn, Violet, and Azalea—have been discontinued. The Gym Leaders who previously presided over these treasured arenas found themselves pursuing new challenges and adventures.
A NEW WORLD
There were major shifts in both Kanto and Johto due to this revolutionary event. The citizens of Pewter City started an endeavor to transform Viridian Forest into a bustling mining operation, changing the once-idyllic woodland. In contrast, Mahogany Town was devastated by persistent flooding caused by severe storms and was forever changed from a prosperous community to a ghost town. It wasn’t all chaos and damage, though; some citizens took the opportunity to improve their communities by planting new trees.
WORLDS COLLIDE
One of the most intriguing aspects of “Pokemon FireRed 2” is the incorporation of Pokemon from both Kanto and Johto into a single region. Because of this union, trainers from both regions can now meet Pokemon originally from Johto and Kanto. Experienced and inexperienced trainers alike stand to benefit from the expansion of their Pokemon’s stomping grounds.
