A phoenix has arisen from failed Pokemon ROM hack attempts in the ever-changing world of hacked video game cartridges. When you play “Pokemon Mirage of Tales,” a GBA ROM Hack created by Avara, you’ll feel like you’re playing a brand-new version of the classic Pokemon Emerald. The game has been updated as of September 5, 2023, and is now available for enthusiastic trainers to begin over.

People who remember the cringeworthy days of the 2013–2014 hack “Mirage Of Tales: A New Age Dawns” may be pleasantly surprised by the evolution of its sequel. Fueled by a liking for class-based RPGs and the spirit of “Choose Your Own Adventure” novels, the project was initially an impulsive plunge into ROM hacking. Unfortunately, the rushed release caused gameplay that fell far short of expectations.

Demos from 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2017 no longer contain download links to reflect the team’s dedication to improving the quality of their work in light of past mistakes. After starting as a FireRed port, the project evolved into an Emerald port, returning to its decompiled Pokéemon Emerald roots.

Getting here has not been a solo effort. When Griffin joined the project in 2020, it represented a turning point from a solo effort to a collaborative one. The collective effort has prepared the way for Mirage Of Tales 2.0, signifying a culmination of years of hard work and dedication to realize the original concept.

Trainers can expect a reinvented world that represents the development and hard work of the game’s designers as the game enters a new era. A monument to the fortitude and evolution of a project that refused to be constrained by its history, “Pokemon Mirage of Tales 2.0” invites you to experience an adventure like no other.
