Madden NFL 09 is an American football video game based on the NFL developed by EA Tiburon and released by EA Sports. It is the 20th installment in the Madden NFL video game series. The game was available on the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360, and mobile phones. It was also the last Xbox game made and released in North America and the previous Madden game released on the Nintendo DS. Due to the system’s demise in 2007, a GameCube version was canceled. Unlike earlier editions, the game was not made available for PC. EA Sports has stated that they are “retooling the PC version” following the failure of 09. Despite these claims of ‘retooling,’ PC users were abandoned the following year again, with no Windows version of Madden NFL 10 available. EA Sports said in June 2009 that the Madden NFL, NCAA Football, NASCAR, NHL, NBA Live, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour series would not be available on Microsoft Windows in 2010. The Wii edition of the game is called Madden NFL 09 All-Play, and it was released under EA Sports’ new All-Play brand that was exclusive to the platform, adopting a somewhat different approach to the game and utilizing the motion controls. Madden NFL 09’s 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition contains NFL Head Coach 09, an alternate case, a unique edition of John Madden Football ’93 with updated teams and rosters, and added video content and clips. The game’s demo was available on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network. On August 12, 2008, the ordinary version and the anniversary package were published. The game was the last title released on the original Xbox as of August 12, 2008. On September 17, 2008, a Spanish-language version of the game was published for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.
