The franchise was taken to a new level with the release of Mortal Kombat: Deception, which featured several fatalities for each character, dynamic backgrounds, and new game modes. In addition to the improved one-on-one combat mode, this installment of the Mortal Kombat series includes a board game, a puzzle game, and a free-roaming Konquest mode, all of which are playable for the first time in the series. Online play is supported for both the PlayStation 2 and Xbox Live platforms in Mortal Kombat: Deception. The game also includes online competitions and tournaments and the ability to engage in online gameplay for the board game and puzzle modes.
