Front Mission 5: Scars Of War

The fifth installment in Square’s Front Mission series of tactical role-playing games is Front Mission 5: Scars of the War. It transports the player to a harsh, futuristic world in which conflicts are fought between five global powers: the United States Navy, the Organization for Collective Unity, the European Community, the Organization for American Cooperation, and the Republic of Zaftra. These battles are fought with the wanzer, Front Mission jargon for a mecha. In terms of its gameplay, the game is a genuine throwback to the origins of Front Mission 2 while also incorporating various elements from Front Mission 1, 3, and 4. Participating in turn-based missions that pit the player’s gang of wanzers against hostile forces is one of the game’s main features. The ability to upgrade parts and branch missions are two of the classic features that have been brought back. Friendly fire and the ability to recruit new pilots are two additions to Front Mission 5’s roster of features.
