Half-Life: Decay is an expansion pack for Valve Software’s first-person shooter Half-Life that is only available in multiplayer mode. Decay, developed by Gearbox Software and published by Sierra On-Line, was released in 2001 as part of the PlayStation 2 version of Half-Life. Decay is the third Half-Life expansion pack. Like its predecessors, it returns to the original story’s setting and timeline, albeit from the perspective of a different set of protagonists: two female scientists working at the Black Mesa Research Facility. Decay is a cooperative multiplayer game that requires two people to work together to complete the levels. Decay was not a critical success, but video game journalists received it well. Many reviewers thought the game was enjoyable to play with a friend, but the more puzzle-oriented gameplay detracted from the overall experience. According to several reviews, the game felt little more than an add-on for the PlayStation 2 version of Half-Life.
