The local magic school’s teacher Accord has misplaced her magical flying cane. Because there has been word of an award, the students are searching high and low for it. Our heroes, Amitie and her school nemesis Raffine, naturally make their way toward the distant dark castle, challenging – and being challenged by – everyone they meet in a game of Puyo Pop. Puyo Pop Fever is a falling-block puzzle game in which the goal is to clear your blocks (Puyos) by combining four or more of the same color, which will then vanish. This will result in Nuisance Puyos. These colorless Puyos will fall onto your opponent’s screen, preventing them from forming chains and combos. These obnoxious Puyos can only be eliminated by removing nearby Puyos. When an opponent sends Nuisance Puyos to your screen, you can try to “offset” by clearing your own Puyos and limiting the number of Nuisance Puyos on your screen. This will also cause your Fever Meter to rise. When this meter is complete, you will be given a prearranged set of Puyos with which you can rack up massive combos and send tons of Nuisance Puyos to your opponent. The game is over when a player’s field is so complete that they can no longer drop Puyos. There is a two-player mode in the game. Some versions support more players, such as the DS version, which supports up to eight players in free-for-all or team modes.
