It is possible to consider WWE All Stars the successor to the arcade game WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game. Its gameplay is more arcade-oriented, featuring elements of fighting games, with over-the-top moves and unrealistic animation, in contrast to the simulation-based WWE SmackDown vs. Raw games. In a manner analogous to that of versus fighters, the majority of the wrestling in the game is based on combos. The wrestler is known for his over-the-top signature moves, which may include elements that appear almost supernatural, such as diving from great heights or moving in slow motion. The game consists of well-known WWF and WWE wrestlers from the past, such as Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, The Ultimate Warrior, Jake the Snake, and Randy “Macho Man” Savage. Other famous WWE wrestlers from that era include Triple H, The Undertaker, Rey Mysterio, Big Show, and John Cena. There is a mode in the game called Path Of Champions, in which players select a WWE Legend or Superstar and work their way up through the ranks to become either the WWE Champion, the World Heavyweight Champion, or the WWE Tag Team Champions.
