Players will compete in events that take place in settings modeled after the official venues of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.
Gamers will be able to compete as or against a variety of endearing characters, including Mario, Sonic, Luigi, Knuckles, Yoshi, Tails, and more, using a supporting cast of figures from the great worlds of both Mario and Sonic. Players will be able to compete for the highly desired gold medal by racing the likes of Mario and Sonic down the 100m track, participating in exhilarating table tennis rallies, and churning water in a swimming heat using inventive use of the Wii and DS control systems to maneuver a favorite character.
Hisao Oguchi, President and Chief Operating Officer of SEGA Corporation, remarked, “We are happy to join with Nintendo and ISM on this pioneering title. We are beyond thrilled to see two of the greatest video game characters in the world face off against one another in history’s biggest sporting event.
According to Shigeru Miyamoto, Senior Managing Director and General Manager, Entertainment Analysis and Development Division, Nintendo Co., Ltd., “Mario and Sonic have been respectful rivals from the early days of video games.” “In reality, they have been talking about competing against one another in the future for a very long time. We may now finally find who is genuinely quicker, Mario or Sonic, at the Olympic Games as they have been given the ideal opportunity to clash.”
The chairman and chief executive officer of ISM, Raymond Goldsmith, remarked that the Olympic Games “reflect the true spirit of competition and enthusiasm.” It “helps showcase the sports of the Olympic Games in a unique and captivating way for all generations” when extremely competitive and entertaining characters like Mario and Sonic are combined in an Olympic environment.
