From Japan’s post-war reconstruction to the 1980s economic crises crisis, this Tokyo suburb has seen everything. It was almost inevitable that this particular technocracy of pleasure would give birth to a completely new sort of desire because it was always on the cutting edge of advancement and had something to offer even the most fetishistic of appetites.
The town’s unaware figurine hunters, maid café aficionados, and cosplayers are prey to the “Synthisters,” vampires who feed on life energy. In addition to assuming the characteristics of their assailants, those who are afflicted by Synthisters retreat from society and turn into real shut-ins due to their newly discovered lethal sensitivity to sunlight.
The manga and anime series AKIBA’S TRIP: Undead & Undressed depicts the tale of one such unfortunate individual, a young man by the name of Nanashi who fell victim to a trap after being seduced by the promise of unique character items and became a walking undead. However, the bleeding kiss of an enigmatic Synthister hunter named Shizuku saved him from the worst of his fate. Nanashi and Shizuku must discover the cause of the Synthister virus and prevent Akiba from being overrun by violent, antisocial energy vampires along with the rest of his friends in a group informally known as the “Akiba Freedom Fighters.”
