BACKGROUND

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a cyberpunk-themed first-person action role-playing stealth video game developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix[3], who also created the game’s CGI sequences. It is the third game in the Deus Ex series and a prequel to the original game, released in 2000. It was released in August 2011 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. [4] Feral Interactive produced an OS X version, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Ultimate Edition, on April 26, 2012, which includes the original game and The Missing Link downloadable DLC. [5] [6] On October 22, 2013, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut was published, which featured an upgraded version of the game for PC and consoles, including a Wii U version. [7] On April 15, 2014, Feral Interactive released the OS X version of Director’s Cut.

[8] The Director’s Cut incorporates The Missing Link into the main narrative. On December 17, 2015, Microsoft added the game to Xbox 360 games compatible with the Xbox One. [9] The game takes place in 2027, 25 years before the first game and 45 years before the second game, during a time when international companies have risen in power beyond national governments’ control.

Adam Jensen, a freshly hired security manager at Sarif Industries, a developing biotechnology corporation, is the game’s protagonist. After terrorists attack Sarif’s headquarters in Detroit, Jensen, fatally injured, is forced to undergo life-saving surgery that replaces huge parts of his body with advanced prosthesis and internal organ systems. When he returns to work, he becomes entangled in the global politics of the human improvement movement in his pursuit of those responsible for the attack.

GAME’S THEMES

The game’s key themes are the rise of companies in globalization, espionage, human survival, poverty, and the ethics of developing people with artificial body parts replacements. Human Revolution was met with widespread acclaim at its initial release. Many critics complimenting the game’s open-ended nature and the importance of social interaction in determining the course of events. [10] Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, the sequel, was announced in April 2015 and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. [11]
