The action-adventure video game Disney Infinity is quite similar to the Skylanders franchise, allowing players to interact with the game through physical figurines. The primary distinction between the two methods is that Infinity emphasizes player customization and tinkering with a wider variety of game components. The infinity base and three figurines, including Sulley, Mr. Incredible, and Jack Sparrow, are included in the base set for the starting edition of the game. Figures can be placed in one of the base’s two areas, and those figurines will be brought into the play to serve as playable characters. In addition to that, it contains a hexagonal compartment in which you may store up to three power discs. These make improvements to the game, such as alterations to the environment and the background, as well as the addition of new weapons and vehicles as a character’s perks, red Ability discs are placed underneath them on the base. Each character can have a maximum of two bonuses, and there are a total of four available. The orange toy discs include additional cars and accessories. The scenery and the sky can be changed with the purple customization discs. Having a maximum of three orange and purple discs in play is possible simultaneously. Discs can be purchased singly, as part of a series, in blind packaging, or through various special promotions and shops. Figurines and play sets fall under this category as well. There are also highly uncommon discs with a hologram embedded in the center.
The characters and locations are based on many Disney and Pixar franchises, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles, Cars, and Toy Story. Play Set and a Toy Box options are available when playing the game. Play Sets are campaigns that revolve around a particular franchise and have several different goals to accomplish. Because each Play Set has its independent universe, players are limited to using characters from the corresponding media series. Play Sets can be competed for cooperatively with two players using split-screen. Unlocking these objects and vehicles for Toy Box mode requires participation in these campaigns. The majority of the characters (except those from non-humanoid series like Cars) have activities in common with one another, such as several attacks and double jumps. Still, each figurine also possesses a skill exclusive to that character.
In the Toy Box mode, most of the game’s restrictions are lifted, and players can design their games in an open-world setting. Mixing and matching any actor, weapon, gadget, vehicle, or environment is possible. A variety of in-game tutorials walk players through the process of using the tools associated with the mode. Multiplayer is also an option in this game, and players can advance their characters’ levels and accumulate “spins” by completing specific Play Sets.
The Wii version of the game only includes multiplayer functionality in the Toy Box and not in the Play Sets (offline or online). The GamePad is utilized in the Wii U version of the game to gain access to the mission logs, packs, and tools found inside the Play Sets mode, as well as the toys found within the Toy Box mode. The PC version is completely free to download. However, it does not support the use of physical figurines. Instead, these are obtained through the download of DLC.
