Because it is strategically significant, the beautiful tiny island of Skira, located in the Pacific Ocean close to the north of Japan, has historically been at the center of several conflicts. Sadly, beautiful beaches and clear water are not the only things Skira has to offer its guests. Following the conclusion of the Second World War, the Russians seized control of the island and discovered a massive oil deposit comparable in size to that found in the middle east. At first, no one was concerned about it, but as China’s economy expanded, so did its oil demand. After it, a recession began. China’s manufacturing industry was a tough city, and growing public unrest brought the country closer to the brink of all-out civil conflict. The National People’s Army, defending the Russian border under the leadership of General Zhang, was put on high alert due to these disturbances, further increasing the tension between China and the world community. General Zhang launched a surprise invasion of Skira when Russia was preparing for the worst-case scenario, claiming that the island is the legitimately acquired historical property of China. Because Russia is currently preoccupied with preparing for a conflict that could break out with China on the ground, they have asked the United States for assistance reclaiming control over the island. Shortly after that, UH-10 Black Hawks were spotted hovering above Skira, and the player was on one of those helicopters.

The military simulation known as Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is focused on fast-paced action. The player navigates the mission locations in the traditional manner of a first-person shooter and is tasked with achieving specific goals, such as disabling anti-airguns or detonating generators, for the invasion to proceed. However, because this game strongly emphasizes realism, the player cannot simply go up to the opposing base and start shooting everyone there. Instead, he and his three teammates must use various stances like crouching and crouching to move from cover to cover in different formations and think before a bullet is fired. Put another way, the player must use a tactical approach to avoid being killed while hiding in the tall grass. To this aim, he has a radial menu that is sensitive to the context it is being used in. With this menu, he can issue particular instructions to his teammates. In addition, at the beginning of each mission, the player can post load-out of each teammate and his own to something more ape for the circumstances. The armory only contains weapons used in the real world, such as the MK16 MOD 0 Assault Rifle. The player must monitor his blood and injury conditions if health isn’t enough to avoid conflict. His ability to maintain his weapon straight reduces as a function of the location and severity of his wounds, such as his arm. Additionally, each damage causes the player to lose blood, and after he has lost an excessive amount of blood, he will lose consciousness, and the mission will be failed.

The game has a variety of different modes for multiplayer play. The players have the option of working together to complete the entire campaign, simply one mission, or competing against each other in “Destruction,” which is analogous to Team Deathmatch, or “Infiltration,” in which the players work in smaller teams, one of which must complete an objective. In contrast, the other must prevent the first team from destroying their target. Compared to the single-player campaign, where the player only has limited access to vehicles like jeeps or helicopters, the variety of cars in the multiplayer mode is significantly more extensive. It includes anything from a HUMVEE to an AH-1 Cobra helicopter. In the single-player mode, the player may only use a restricted number of vehicles. A robust map editor is also included in the game’s PC version.
