Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is an association football video game part of the company’s Pro Evolution Soccer series. It is officially abbreviated as PES 2008 and is known as World Soccer: Winning Eleven 2008 in Korea and Japan. In PS2, the game is sometimes called World Soccer: Winning Eleven 11. On June 18, 2007, the game was formally introduced to the public. Its title is unique among other Pro Evolution Soccer games in that it refers to a year rather than a version. This was done because EA Sports’ FIFA series names their games with two-digit numbers (07 and 08). Therefore, PES appeared to lag behind FIFA by one year (to non-fans who did not know the franchise’s previous games). Windows, the Wii, the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, and mobile phones were the platforms on which it was made available. A demo for the PlayStation 3, which can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store, a demo for the Xbox 360, which can be found on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and a demo for the personal computer (PC) have all been made available.
