Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground is a video game created for the Nintendo DS by Vicarious Visions, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 by Neversoft, and PlayStation 2 and Wii by Page 44 Studios. Neversoft’s work on the Tony Hawk series ended with the release of Proving Ground, the ninth game. Robomodo, Inc. took over the development of the franchise after Neversoft’s departure. Compared to Project 8, Proving Ground was not nearly as effective (2006). While getting accolades for its aesthetics and soundtrack, reviewers were skeptical about the gameplay controls when it was first released in 2007. Despite the generally unimpressive reception, it was a commercial success. A demo copy of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, published on October 28, 2007, was included with the American edition of the Xbox 360 video game console. With the release of Proving Ground, the primary series of Tony Hawk games did not continue for another eight years, when Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 was released in 2015.
