The racing game MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is a follow-up to the PlayStation 3 launch title and exclusive MotorStorm.
Players continue the first game’s style in this sequel, riding various vehicles ranging from bikes and ATVs to rally cars and trucks to big rigs and, in a new entry to the series, monster trucks. The action is set on and around a volcanic, tropical island in the South Pacific. These can run over other vehicles, obliterate vegetation, and harm buildings. Some skills have been improved, such as the ability for bikers to duck or hop over obstacles. Like its predecessor, the tracks are unusual and have numerous ineffective routes.
Through repeated laps, the tracks deteriorate, which changes how the vehicles behave. While larger rigs can cut right through the vegetation, smaller vehicles also encounter resistance. Water-filled areas cause the engine to cool down, which has an impact on behavior as well. With a split-screen setup, the game can accommodate up to four players.
