Dragon Quest VIII redefined the standards for video games of its period with its user-friendly and time-saving gameplay and its gorgeous open world when it was first made available for the PlayStation 2 in 2004. It was re-released for mobile devices in 2013. These are only some reasons it has maintained its position as the game with the most sales for the PS2 in Japan.
STORY AND GAMEPLAY
People are turned into thorns, and time stops moving across the realm after the jester Dhoulmagus puts a malicious curse on the whole kingdom. You, a lone guardsman, have not been stricken by the plague and are thus allowed to start on an epic mission to save your king and your kingdom!
The re-release will include several upgrades and new content additions, some of which will be different story scenarios that dive into the past of Dhoulmagus as well as the childhood of the protagonist. The narrative is enhanced even further with the addition of Morrie and Gerda, two new characters that join your team, and full-fledged voice assistance.
In addition, players will discover that the world map is now filled with foes, unlike the old random combat system. This results in a far more lively environment when the player is roaming. Dragon Quest VIII will include support for StreetPass on the 3DS, albeit the specifics of this functionality have not yet been disclosed. Despite a laundry list of enhancements, the game will not be compatible with stereoscopic 3D displays.
