Paper Mario escapes from a book and lands in Mario and Luigi’s strange adventures, leading to humorous and sometimes life-threatening shenanigans. In this wacky new chapter of the Mario & Luigi franchise, you take on the roles of Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario to complete challenges, defeat foes, and unravel the mysteries of these two distinct worlds.
Paper Jam is a role-playing video game that uses a framework comparable to earlier games in the Mario & Luigi series. In addition, the game relies on several components from the Paper Mario series.
The player takes control of Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario from their respective series simultaneously as they make their way through the Mushroom Kingdom overworld to reach Bowser’s Castle to rescue both versions of Princess Peach from both versions of Bowser their respective universes.
The three are controlled by pressing one of three separate buttons each. The player can interact with non-player characters (NPCs) and complete puzzles while in the overworld. Certain riddles must be completed before the player may proceed in the game.
Some of the challenges require character-specific abilities; for instance, Paper Mario may utilize his paper-thin body to squeeze through narrow gaps, allowing him to visit regions Mario and Luigi cannot reach.
In some instances, the three acquire new special moves as the primary plot progresses. These moves can be utilized anywhere in the overworld, including to solve puzzles that stand in the way of progression or to access other hidden locations.
