Call of Duty: Black Ops is a first-person shooter with stealth and tactical elements that casts players as shadow soldiers battling in a range of historically accurate fictitious Cold War Black Ops missions. The game, which was developed with the help of genuine Black Ops soldiers from the period, combines basic Call of Duty tactical shooter gameplay with unique gameplay choices aimed at enhancing the players’ experience. Extensive multiplayer possibilities, as well as new vehicles and explosive new weaponry, are also included. Call of Duty: Black Ops, the follow-up to 2009’s blockbuster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, treads new territory in the Call of Duty franchise and the video game industry at large by digging into the not-so-cold wars of the Cold War. The missions in Call of Duty: Black Ops are inspired by the experiences of real Black Ops soldiers from the era and take the player to a wide range of settings, from snowbound mountain strongholds in historical Soviet-held territories to the jungles and urban settings of Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. The original essence of Call of Duty-style fighting has been preserved, but new sorts of player action have been introduced to enhance the gameplay experience. Co-op, versus, and team-based multiplayer modes are also available, as are new vehicles such as the SR-71 Blackbird and dangerous new weaponry such as explosive-tipped crossbows.
