Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds (Japanese: VS. 3; Mvuru bsasu Kapukon Sur: Feito obu T. Wrudo) is a fighting game that Capcom and Eighting co-developed. Characters from Capcom’s video game franchises and Marvel Comics’ comic book series appear in the game. In February 2011, it was published on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms. It is the fifth chapter in the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise and the first to employ three-dimensional character models rather than sprites. In Marvel vs. Capcom 3, players choose a team of three characters to participate in a fight and try to knock out their opponents. It has tag team-playing concepts comparable to previous games in the series and new modes of play to make the game more approachable to novice players. Ryota Niitsuma, who previously worked on Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars, created the game, which employs the same streamlined three-button assault system. The play garnered generally excellent reviews from critics, who commended its gameplay and character roster while criticizing its online component and lack of features and game types. A month after its release, more than 2 million units were distributed globally, making it a commercial success. Less than a year after its release, Capcom unveiled an enhanced game version named Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The standalone update was published in November 2011 and included new characters, levels, and gameplay changes.
