Need for Speed: Most Wanted (also known as Need for Speed: Most Wanted: A Criterion Game; usually abbreviated to Most Wanted 2012) is a nonlinear open-world racing game released in 2012 by Criterion Games and distributed by Electronic Arts. Most Wanted was announced on June 4, 2012, during EA’s E3 press conference and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, iOS, and Android, beginning in North America on October 30, 2012, with a Wii U version following on March 14, 2013, under the title Need for Speed: Most Wanted U.[10] In contrast to Criterion’s previous Hot Pursuit revival, the game adopted the Most Wanted intellectual property.[12] The globe map mixed the characteristics of earlier Burnout and Need for Speed games, and the social aspects earned excellent reviews, but the single-player gameplay drew criticism. Following its release, the game received multiple honors, including Most Excellent Driving Game at the 2012 Spike Video Game Honors, Best British Game, and Best Online Multiplayer at the 2013 BAFTA Awards. It was regularly named the most excellent driving and racing game of 2012 by several sites.
