Silpheed: The Lost Planet’s sequel, Project Sylpheed, is an arcade-style shooter for the PlayStation 2. The game’s plot takes place in 2632, 500 years after humanity abandoned the solar system. Eleven distinct star systems have now been terraformed and populated under Earth’s control. However, several parties oppose Earth’s control and seek independence; four of them have joined forces to create the ADAN Freedom Alliance. Katana Faraway, Ellen Bernstein, and Margras Mason are the central protagonists in the novel; three are teenage pilots who have recently joined the Terra Central Armed Forces (TCAF), the Earth’s military. Margras joins the enemy ADAN troops to battle against his old companions and home planet after a strange accident. In the game, you control Katana, and the plot unfolds as tasks are performed. Unlike earlier Silpheed games, which featured a top-down view of the action, Project Sylpheed provides a completely 3-D view from either slightly behind your spacecraft or from within. Throughout the game, you must fulfill various goals, such as destroying all regional opponents or defending an allied ship from attack. Initially, there are fewer adversaries, and you do not have powerful equipment, but as the game goes on, the number and abilities of the foes rise. You may upgrade your spacecraft with more powerful weapons. Several sub-objectives may become accessible throughout a mission and can be achieved (some sub-objectives also unlock Xbox 360 Achievements when finished).
