The sequel to Tomb Raider (2014), a remake of the long-running Treasure Hunter franchise starring Lara Croft, is Rise of the Tomb Raider. It takes place one year after the events of the last game and uses similar gameplay concepts. A deadly group known as Trinity has hidden her encounters with the otherworldly in that game. She shares the same situation as her father, whose work suffered from Trinity’s pressure in the scientific community. She journeys to the Siberian tundra in pursuit of the vanished city Kitezh to get concrete proof of the eternal soul via a relic known as the Divine Source. The severe and freezing conditions put off most of the expedition’s personnel, leaving just Lara and her friend Jonah. For various portions, Jonah is by her side and part of the story; however, the majority of the game is played with Lara alone. Early in the game, a brief flashback takes place in Syria, where Trinity is pursuing Lara as she looks for a prophet’s tomb, setting the stage for the events in Siberia. While many game elements remain the same, the most noticeable variation is the shift in setting. It adds new animal species, and ice now plays a vital part in several regions. Like the previous game, the game environment comprises numerous smaller open-world zones connected. Lara is allowed to experiment in various ways. Ice axes may scale many surfaces, and ziplines can go long distances. A rope and a grapple are two more options. There are also some straight areas, but unlike the last game, there are nearly no quick-time events. As previously said, there is frequently a choice between confrontation and stealth, but with a greater focus on fighting because it is either inescapable or highly time-consuming to do otherwise in some cases. Melee fighting, as well as the use of a knife, is accessible.

Lara may fight adversaries and drop down from trees on them. Unlike in the last game, health does not recover automatically; instead, it requires using bandages that must be manufactured. To maintain stealth, attackers can be put unconscious by utilizing non-lethal takedowns, tackling, or knock-out gas. It is also feasible to conceal it from animals and people using greenery. Swimming has been removed from the series since Tomb Raider: Underworld. Lara may hide by swimming beneath the ice in various places, and adversaries can be concealed underwater with stealth takedowns. As in the last game, several checkpoints are known as base camps. Lara may convert her experience into skill points to spend in a talent tree, access and make things in her inventory, improve weapons by salvaging, and travel quickly to other base camps. In addition to pistols, shotguns, machine guns, and hunting rifles, the bow and arrow became essential weapons. It is intended to take out foes quietly, but rope, fire, and explosive arrows are also utilized to solve environment-based problems in numerous circumstances. There are many tasks and obstacles to fulfill in each region, as well as uncovering and collecting antiques, papers, murals, and currency caches. Some of them are now available as side missions from NPCs. Taking a cue from metroidvania games, players are encouraged to repeat places several times with new skills and weapons to reach or open up previously inaccessible sections. Many products are still made by gathering resources from an inventory, such as a Molotov cocktail. The day-night cycle of the environment alters enemy and animal behavior. For example, some of the species Lara must track down are only active at night. The skill tree is again divided into three categories: Survivor, Hunter, and Brawler, with distinct ranks for each and seventeen talents. They provide Lara with additional talents, weapon upgrades, and other abilities. For example, she may now mark foes and take them out quickly. Many new and powerful weapons are discovered by thoroughly exploring a region with your whole armory of talents to acquire all required pieces. As previously stated, the open-world areas are focused on exploration and battle, with most of the puzzle-solving taking place in tombs. To finish the tomb and claim the prizes, these discrete places frequently require reasoning and the use of various weapons, levers, artifacts, and talents. These areas are optional and more numerous than in the previous game. Expeditions is an entirely new feature of the game that can be accessible from the main menu. These allow players to repeat and change levels to make them easier or more complex, a notion previously employed in Hitman: Absolution through numerous modifiers. Expedition Cards, which may be purchased with coins from the main game or with microtransactions based on real money, are required for editing operations. The game has four difficulty levels, which affect the opponent’s health and damage, and targeting helps.
