Street Fighter X Tekken (X Sutorto Fait Kurosu Tekken?) is a Capcom crossover fighting game published in March 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, May 2012 for the PC, and October 2012 for the PlayStation Vita. Characters from the Street Fighter and Namco’s Tekken series appear in the game. In the game, players choose two characters and compete against other duos in tag team fighting battles to knock out one of the other team members. In addition to the multiplayer modes, the game has a single-player story mode with a plot centered on a mystery device known as the “Pandora.” The game results from a collaboration between Namco and Capcom, which earlier created the role-playing game Namco Capcom. The gameplay is based on 2D Street Fighter, with projectile moves like the Hadouken, as opposed to the Tekken series. Namco was more involved in licensing the Tekken cast when Capcom developed Street Fighter X Tekken. Namco is developing its crossover, Tekken X Street Fighter, featuring its 3D gameplay style. The Gem System, which lets players add unique gems to power up various character traits, and Pandora Mode, which briefly augments a character’s strength and skills, are unique aspects of Street Fighter X Tekken. The game garnered positive reviews from critics, who praised the lineup and rich game mechanics. Despite this, it fell short of Capcom’s sales projections. Furthermore, when it was found that Capcom was charging for access to characters already on the game disc, the company’s distribution of downloadable content (DLC) for the game was criticized.
