The King of Fighters XIII is a 2010 game in the The King of Fighters series developed and published by SNK Playmore. On July 14, 2010, King of Fighters XIII was posted in Japanese arcades, while ports for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 were released in late 2011 in Japan and English territories, respectively, with Atlus and Rising Star Games in charge of publishing them in the United States and Europe. In 2011–2012, mobile versions of the iOS and Android operating systems were released. On September 13, 2013, a PC version was published via Steam. The game’s critical reaction has been excellent, and it has won or been nominated for many Game of the Year honors. The play takes place after the events of The King of Fighters XI and concludes Ash Crimson’s story arc, which began in The King of Fighters 2003. It follows another King of Fighters tournament. Those From the Distance Land, the organization responsible for the events of the previous two games, secretly organized to break the demon Orochi’s seal and seize its power. Kei Yamamoto, who directed the game, wanted to incorporate elements from previous The King of Fighters games and fix its flaws. It was released following The King of Fighters XII. This title dramatically changes the gameplay from its predecessor, deleting specific modes and introducing new ones. It also extends the character list, reorganizing the playable characters into three-person teams like in previous iterations. The ports are notable for providing additional content not included in the original game, such as extra characters, levels, and game types.
