In the year 2012, an average bartender by the name of Desmond Miles is taken captive by an unknown organization. Desmond is bound to a peculiar machine known as an “Animus” by his captors. This allows him to access the memories of his ancestor, an assassin named Altar. The kidnappers view recreating Alta’r’s memories as necessary for some unknown reason.

Desmond can relive the events in the Holy Land during the Third Crusade in the year 1191 after gaining access to Altar’s memories. This takes place in 1191. The head of the assassins, Al Mualim, gives Alta’r the order to assassinate nine significant historical personalities who, according to Al Mualim, are responsible for allowing conflict and corruption to sweep over the Holy Land.

The player is in charge of Alta’r for most of the game; nevertheless, it is evident that the player is experiencing the game from Desmond’s perspective. In addition, the player can exercise control over Desmond outside his “Animus” sessions.

The most original aspect of this game is the ability to make decisions and roam freely. It is possible to move around the walls using any component of the building’s architecture, such as window ledges, stone carvings, or wooden bars. This enables the player to participate in exciting pursuit scenarios if a guard pursues them.

In the game, you can accomplish what you set out to do in several different ways. You can learn about your next victim by eavesdropping, interrogating, or even pickpocketing them. After gathering this information, you will then be able to decide whether you will engage the targets in a full frontal attack or whether you will instead use the cover of the rooftops to toss a throwing knife at them.

Depending on your path, you will have to deal with the people and knights of the cities, who will become suspicious of a cloaked person wandering on the roofs or near the mission targets. You will have to do this regardless of which path you take. You can successfully blend in with the crowd in several scenarios. If you’re lucky, you can eliminate your target without anybody glancing in your direction. Altair is equipped with a limited but potent armory of weapons, including swords and throwing knives, and he can learn new fighting techniques to assist him in completing his quest.
