The comic book-like plot and characters in Dark Void have a charming goofiness that shines through in the game’s animation and witty design. Even though the main character Will is a direct clone of Nathan Drake (voiced by Nolan North, too), the plot nonetheless has enough individuality to be interesting.

In recent years, cover-shooting has become so cliché. Dark Void adds an intriguing vertical fighting mechanic, which almost every other game has already incorporated. It functions just the same as a conventional cover, but you’re looking over a sizable ledge with a steep drop below you instead. Although in a positive way, it might be disorienting.

Dark Void’s soundtrack is one of the game’s strong points because of its impact and durability. Unfortunately, some audio issues can sully the mood.

In Dark Void, a jetpack is provided. Honestly, it’s remarkable that so few video games feature jetpacks. Despite a learning curve, Dark Void’s flight combat seems rather solid mechanically. Although some of the goals are well-known, the overwhelming feeling is positive.
