The Disgaea series has reached its third installment with the release of Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice. The events of this game take place in the same world as those in the previous games, although in a unique Netherworld. It relates to the narrative of Mao, a student at Evil Academy who rose to the top of his class. At this particular institution, students who are impolite, unmotivated, and chronically absent are praised, while those whose demeanor exemplifies the characteristics of a model citizen are labeled as potential troublemakers. Mao, who considers himself a self-proclaimed wicked genius, is fixated on the heroes of tales and desires to acquire the mysterious power they wield: the power of love.
The gameplay is mainly identical to the previous games, consisting of a series of isometric landscapes on which the player’s units (including main protagonists, custom characters, and monsters) move and fight to progress to the next level. On the other hand, each character now has a unique set of weapon proficiencies, and monsters can “mag change” into a weapon their allies can use. Stacking and stepping on Geo Blocks found on the map is now possible. The panel these Geo Blocks stand on, and other boards of the same color are affected when moved.
After completing the main storyline, more maps and characters will become playable.
