Dungeon Defenders is a tower defense version with action features. The objective of the game, which is the same as any other tower defense game, is to fend off waves of enemies by constructing new defense structures during the breaks in the action. However, in this game, four people are simultaneously putting up the constructions above, and the entire game is played from an over-the-shoulder perspective. The action features stem from players fighting against the creatures during the waves actively.
Building something requires money, which may be obtained by killing foes or opening treasure chests hidden throughout the stages. In addition to monetary rewards, the game offers players the opportunity to acquire stat-improving weapons, gear, and armor, as well as experience points and level advancements. On the other hand, there is no mechanism for rewarding teamwork, and the distribution of items is determined by a “first come, first serve” method. Every player can choose one of four different classes, each with a unique skill set. The game’s primary objective is to work together with other players to complete objectives. Still, a story option is also where children defend themselves against hostile forces.
