Guilty Gear Xrd[a] (Japanese: Hepburn: Giruti Gia Iguzdo?) is a fighting video game created by Arc System Works. Guilty Gear Xrd, the fifth edition in the Guilty Gear series, was built using Unreal Engine 3, with cel-shaded graphics replacing the series’ typical hand-drawn sprites. It followed the previous game’s Guilty Gear 2: Overture and included four new characters. Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- was released in arcades on February 20, 2014, and in December of the same year for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan and North America, with a digital-only release in Europe in June 2015, and to the PC via Valve Corporation’s digital store, Steam, on December 10th, 2015. The game has received praise for its cel-shaded aesthetics and easy gameplay. Still, it has also received criticism for its lack of an interactive story element and limited characters. A sequel follow-up, Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator-, was announced for a Q2 2016 console release.
