More than a dozen video game adaptations of Parker Brothers and Hasbro’s highly successful board game Monopoly have been released. Gremlin Interactive created the PlayStation version, while Westwood Studios created the Windows/Mac version. The Windows/Mac version was top-down, whereas the PlayStation version was 3D. They both shared cutscenes that showed the game pieces moving on their own. [Citation required] Hasbro Interactive released a Monopoly video game for Microsoft Windows in 1998, which featured 3D graphics rather than the top-down design seen in previous versions. It ran on Windows 95 (although it can be run on Windows XP and up, but not on Windows Vista and up) and had a special online play feature that used a modem. [Citation required] Electronic Arts released a new version in 2008 for the Wii, PlayStation 3, iPhone, and Xbox 360, as well as a slightly reduced version for the PlayStation 2. It features a transatlantic selection of boards, including the new Here & Now edition boards and the new Richest game mode. However, there are no online features. [Citation required] EA’s Monopoly game received a low Metacritic rating of 54% on the PS3 and 56% on the Xbox 360. The Wii version received a higher rating of 70%. In the Christmas 2008 issue, the Official Nintendo Magazine in the United Kingdom praised the Wii version, calling it “great fun.” EuroGamer, on the other hand, was less enthusiastic, stating: “You could buy real Monopoly for the price of Monopoly for Wii. Twice. You could also buy no Monopoly at all and spend your money on something more likely to inspire peace and harmony, such as a book by Hitler.” Ubisoft’s Monopoly Family Fun Pack for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One was released on November 18, 2014. It is an on-disc bundle that includes the digitally released Monopoly Plus and Monopoly Deal, as well as the My Monopoly extension for Monopoly Plus.
