The first Stuntman video game was released in 2002, and Stuntman: Ignition is an updated version of that game. The players each take on the role of a Hollywood stunt driver working for a film production company. Players must navigate through each stage, modeled after a different film while racking up points for their stunt driving. Players can evaluate their performance after each level by seeing the movie trailer produced for that level.

Aftershock, Whoopin and a Hollerin’ II, Strike Force Omega, Overdrive, Never Kill Me Again, and Night Avenger are the six movies that can be selected. Each one features a unique environment, set of objectives, and obstacles. There are six sequences in each film, and the director has specific expectations that must be met in each one. It is necessary to complete a series of stunts successfully to advance in the game; however, the number of points that may be earned can be boosted by tying the actions together and adding additional danger by drifting, flying through the air, or coming close to other cars and objects.

In the multiplayer mode, there are two different game modes available. In Backlot Battle, players complete a predetermined number of laps while attempting to rack up as many stunts as possible. Backlot Race is a simplistic racing game in which a boost may be obtained while performing acrobatics. The gameplay for the PS2 version is only available offline. ON THE OTHER HAND, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions feature multiplayer through the use of the DemonWare middleware.
