The most recent installment in the series of professional wrestling fighting games, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010, improves upon several aspects of its predecessor while introducing a brand-new mode called Story Designer. As was the case in the previous installment, players can take control of any of the game’s various wrestlers and compete in either lengthy career matches or shorter single fights against human or computer-controlled opponents. The Create-A-Superstar tool still allows for creating custom characters, and it has been updated to allow for creating 3D outfits and decorations. The “Create-A-Finisher” function now includes aerial techniques, allowing players to choose their jumping trajectory and the pace at which they jump.
The gameplay has been altered in a few ways, including adding more grapple moves and a new training option for novice players. Now, instead of using the two-button approach used before, reversals are accomplished based on timing, and the player must push the appropriate button at the exact moment the icon appears. Players of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions can upload and share their wrestlers, shows, and moves via the internet. The highlight reel may be uploaded directly to YouTube from the PS3 version of the game.
