Following the devastation caused by a nuclear war, the few people who managed to survive went below the metropolis’s radioactive surface to seek safety in the expansive subway system. Artyom is a young man who saved his home station and, ultimately, humanity from the threat posed by a mysterious race of aliens known as The Dark Ones. As a result of his heroic actions, he was awarded the great honor of becoming a Ranger. Despite this, the Metro continues to wage war against mutants and political factions such as the Neo-Nazi organization The Reich and the Communistic Reds, and peace is nothing more than a pipe dream for the innocent people who live in the tunnels. Soon after, word spread that one of the Dark Ones managed to avoid being killed by the missile attack launched against its species. Artyom comes into contact with the Dark One due to a chain of circumstances, and it becomes clear that things are not as straightforward as they initially appeared.

The video game Metro: Last Light is a first-person shooter in a post-apocalyptic horror setting. It is the sequel to the video game Metro 2033 and is based on the Russian novel Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Metro: Last Light is a new chapter in the Metro story. Much like its predecessor, the game is essentially a first-person shooter that significantly emphasizes stealth gameplay. Artyom can carry up to three firearms at once; however, because bullets are so hard to come by and precious, higher-grade bullets are used as a form of currency in the Metro. When dealing with armed opponents, it is best to remain stealthy and conserve ammunition for the various mutant creatures that may be faced during the fight. In several scenarios, the player can either shoot openly or sneak up on the enemy. They also have the choice between using lethal or non-lethal takedowns of their opponents.

The game’s action occurs in two different settings: the Metro system and the planet’s surface. The Metro is made up of stations and tunnels that are plagued by mutants and are inhabited by themselves. Each station within the Metro is unique, and the player will have the opportunity to see and explore many of them, both friendly and enemy, throughout the game. The surface is highly hazardous, and the protagonist must wear a gas mask to stay alive. Because of this, it is essential to discover dead bodies and containers and scavenge for gas mask filters. Should the cover show signs of cracking or breaking, the player must locate another one immediately, or Artyom will perish. On the surface, there are a lot of dangerous toxins and mutations; some are even strong enough to pull Artyom up and throw him from enormous heights.
