The government requires all students to take an adaptation test, and if they receive a high score on this test, it suggests that they are less likely to be able to adjust to the culture in which they live. As a result, these kids are sent to Gunjo Academy, an institution created to gather and isolate these individuals. After an unsuccessful summer vacation with the other members of the school’s broadcasting club, Kurosu Taichi and some other club members return to the city, only to discover that the world has undergone a dramatic transformation in the interim.
