Madden NFL 07, which is presently in its 17th installment and has the unique video game license of the NFL and its players, puts you in control of the running game like never before. Step up as the lead blocker for the first time to open a hole, then take charge of the tailback and crash through, overwhelm, or slash away from would-be tacklers as you fight for every yard. Innovative rushing controls allow you to launch a game-changing ground attack that includes all-new jukes, cutbacks, and the different running styles of your favorite backs. Some of the new control choices featured in the console versions, such as the Hit Stick (toggled on the PSP via the triangle button) and Lead Blocker Control, are included in the game. The primary game modes remain the same as last year and include “play now” quick games, wi-fi multiplayer, mini-camp, and franchise (which still lacks Owner Mode and Storyline Central but does have the exclusive Assistant Coach mode). The PS2 connectivity option now enables the transfer of whole franchise seasons between the PSP and the PS2. The mini-game “End 2 End” is a new feature. The PSP is held vertically in this mode. A runner approaches the end zone and is met by a swarm of tacklers. When the player notices the tackler’s direction, they must respond by pressing the correct direction button in time to avoid it it. A point is awarded for quick reaction time and many evasions in succession. High scores in this mode unlock music tracks and secret teams.
