ModNation Racers

ModNation Racers combines Mario Kart’s kart racing and LittleBigPlanet’s customization. The player begins as an up-and-coming balloonist named T.A.G. in the M.R.C. (ModNation Racing Championship) series, with his mother as a sponsor and a washed-out racer as a crew chief, meeting a variety of interesting characters, both good and bad, along the way. The first race introduces the player to the controls and some aspects of the game, such as rockets, sonic weapons, lightning weapons, and boost power-ups. These weapons can be obtained from item pods scattered throughout the track, and each weapon has three levels, starting at level one and increasing with each item pod picked up. Following the initial race, the player will be directed to the ModSpot, M.N.R.’s central hub for players to gather. The ModSpot introduces the player to the game’s creation aspect; using the creation station, the player can modify their racers and karts. The player can unlock more items in the career mode by winning matches and completing specific challenges, such as taking down three opponents and activating three traps. They can also collect tokens scattered on each track (a total of five tickets for each way) and use them at a vending machine, like a slot machine, picking either 1 pass, 2 tokens, or 5 tokens and randomly receiving an item based on the tokens used. Players can also design their tracks by sculpting the landscape with various tools to create their ultimate dream track. The players can share their creations with the world by publishing them. They can also upload their created racers, karts, and ways to a shared center and download other players’ creations. At the ModSpot, players can also view the Top Mods and Top Karts of the Week, see who is in the current room, consider the Top Players of the Week, enter the creation studios, and even set up races with friends on official or custom tracks created by players.
